Dustin Clare (born 2 January 1982) is an Australian actor. He is known for his starring role asGannicus in theStarz seriesSpartacus: Gods of the Arena,Spartacus: Vengeance andSpartacus: War of the Damned, and as Riley Ward on the seriesMcLeod's Daughters.

Personal life

Clare is fromAustralia. Born in Grafton, he grew up in bothBallina, NSW andMaclean, NSW.[1] Clare studied at theWestern Australian Academy of Performing Arts inPerth, he graduated in 2004.[2]

He served as a 2012 ambassador for the Warrambeen Film Festival.[3] He is also an ambassador for the White Ribbon Foundation.[4]

Career

From 2006 to 2007, Clare starred as Riley Ward in 48 episodes of the seriesMcLeod's Daughters.[5][6] In 2009, he played Sydney hit-man and gangland figureChristopher Dale Flannery inUnderbelly: A Tale of Two Cities[7] and also as Sean in theShowtime Network (Australia) seriesSatisfaction.[8]

His global fame occurred when he starred asGannicus, the champion gladiator of the House of Batiatus, inSpartacus: Gods of the Arena.[9] This is the prequel to the seriesSpartacus: Blood and Sand and the second season chronologically of release. He returned to his role as Gannicus in the two sequel seasons toSpartacus: Blood and Sand entitledSpartacus: Vengeance andSpartacus: War of the Damned.[10]

He received a 2007Logie Award forMcLeod's Daughters,[11] and a 2015Equity Ensemble Award forANZAC Girls.[12]
