InNorse mythology,Durinn (Old Norse:[ˈdurenː]; orDurin) is adwarf according to stanza 10 of the poemVöluspá from thePoetic Edda, and repeated inGylfaginning from theProse Edda. He was the second created after the first and foremost dwarfMótsognir.[1][2]

He is also attested inHervarar saga, where he forged themagic swordTyrfing with the help of the dwarfDvalin. In variant texts of the saga Durinn is known asDulinn.[3]

Modern influence

In thelegendarium ofJ. R. R. Tolkien,Durin is the name given to several kings of theDwarves including Durin the Deathless, the eldest of theSeven Fathers of their race.[4]
