Durganagar is a locality inNorth Dumdum ofNorth 24 Parganas district in theIndianstate ofWest Bengal.[1] It is a part of the area covered byKolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).[2]

Geography

It is flanked byBirati andNimta areas in the north,Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in the east, area ofBelgharia and adjoining areas ofDakshineswar in the west and the posh areas of Dum Dum Cantonment andDum Dum Cantonment metro station in the south.[3]

Durganagar is a part of the North Dum Dum Municipality.[4] Previously it was known as Sultanpur. Durganagar area is situated in the northern suburbs of theKolkata Metropolitan Area.[5] It is about 6.2 km fromDakshineswar Kali Temple and 1 km west ofNetaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

Durganagar has good transportation facilities.Belghoria Expressway (locally known as Delhi Road) passes through Durganagar.[17] It is very close to theDumdum/Kolkata Airport.

Dum Dum Cantonment metro station andBiman Bandar metro station ofYellow Line ofKolkata Metro are the nearest metro stations.

Kolkata’s reverence and love for Goddess Durga are known facts. This reverence yet again takes centerstage as the locality is popularly known to be named after the goddess herself. Durga Puja in Durganagar has been organised by various local clubs such as Durganagar Sporting Club, Alok Sangha Club, Badra Agragami Club, Durganagar Bandhu Milan Sangha, Durganagar Aikatan Club and others.[19]

Sri Jagannath Radha Madanmohan Temple has been established byISKCON at Durganagar nearBelghoria Expressway or Delhi Road. Every year religious procession has been organised here duringRatha Yatra with great enthusiasm.Hindus celebrate a lot of festivals and follow a lot of traditions and rituals throughout the year. One among all theHindu festivals is theKrishna Janmashtami, this festival has been celebrated at Sri Jagannath Radha Madanmohan Temple by ISKCON with a lot of devotion.[20][21]

Bhaskar Ganguly
  • Dipankar Ganguly: The famous English tutor (familiar as Dilip Ganguly) who taught since 40 years. Despite having profound knowledge in literature, science, arts, commerce etc, he was also a great human being and cordial to his student. Besides teaching passionately he chose his profession as the manager of the Central Bank of India. He left us forever at the age of 71 years old, 18th April, 2021.
