Dumetia is a genus ofpasserine birds in the Old World babbler familyTimaliidae that are found in India and Sri Lanka.
The genusDumetia was introduced in 1852 by the English zoologistEdward Blyth.[1] The genus name is fromLatindumetum,dumeti, meaning "thicket."[2] Blyth listed two species in the genus, and of these,George Robert Gray in 1855 selected thetawny-bellied babbler as thetype species.[3][4]
