Dubawi (foaled 7 February 2002) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse. He has proven himself a top-classsire.
Dubawi is a bay horse with no white markings bred in Ireland bySheikh Mohammed'sDarley Stud. He was one of the only crop of foals sired byDubai Millennium, an outstanding racehorse. His dam, Zomaradah was a top class racemare who won theOaks d'Italia,E. P. Taylor Stakes,Premio Lydia Tesio and theRoyal Whip Stakes.[2] As a descendant of the broodmare Sunbittern, Zomaradah, who also produced theLancashire Oaks winner Emirates Queen, was closely related toIn the Wings,High-Rise andVirginia Waters.[3] The colt raced in the blue colours ofGodolphin and was trained bySaeed bin Suroor. He was ridden in all but one of his races byFrankie Dettori.
Dubawi was undefeated as a two-year-old in 2004. He won amaiden race atGoodwood Racecourse in June, theGroup ThreeSuperlative Stakes atNewmarket in July and the Group OneNational Stakes at theCurragh in September.[4]
In the following year he started favourite for the2000 Guineas at Newmarket but finished fifth behindFootstepsinthesand. He defeatedOratorio in the Irish 2000 Guineas[5] and then moved up in distance to finish third toMotivator inThe Derby. He returned to one mile to win thePrix Jacques Le Marois atDeauville Racecourse in August[6] and ended his career by finishing second toStarcraft in theQueen Elizabeth II Stakes atAscot a month later.
Dubawi stands as a breeding stallion at his owner's Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £350,000 for the 2023 season.[7]
Dubawi siredDodging Bullets, a top class 2 mile chaser who won the Grade ITingle Creek Chase, Grade IClarence House Chase and the Grade IQueen Mother Champion Chase at theCheltenham Festival, winning all three Grade Ones in the 2014–2015 Great Britain National Hunt Season. Dodging Bullets was bred by acclaimed flat jockeyFrankie Dettori, having originally been bred as an Epsom Derby prospect. Dubawi's first Grade I success in the National Hunt sphere came when Hisaabaat won theChampion Four Year Old Hurdle at the 2012Punchestown Festival.
