Duško Ivanović (Montenegrin:Душко Ивановић; born September 1, 1957) is aMontenegrin professionalbasketball coach and former player who is currently the head coach forVirtus Bologna of the ItalianLega Basket Serie A (LBA) and theEuroLeague.
As a player, Ivanović started his career withJedinstvo Bijelo Polje. He played withBudućnost,Jugoplastika,Valvi Girona,Limoges CSP, andFribourg Olympic. With Jugoplastika, he won two consecutiveEuroLeague championships, in1989 and1990.
Ivanović'scoaching career started withSisley Fribourg, in the 1993–94 season, where he was both a player and an assistant coach, working as aplayer-coach. In the 1994–95 season, he was an assistant coach ofValvi Girona. After that, he was thehead coach ofFribourg Olympic (1995–1999), the seniorSwiss national basketball team (1997–2000),CSP Limoges (1999–2000),TAU Cerámica (2000–2005), andFC Barcelona (2005–2008), from which he resigned, on 14 February 2008.
For the 2008–09 season, he was back atVitoria, again working as the head coach ofCaja Laboral, a position he held until November 2012, when he was fired.[1]
On 10 June 2014, Ivanović signed a two-year contract with theGreek League teamPanathinaikos.[2] On 3 May 2015, after a 66–77 home game loss to Panathinaikos' arch rivals,Olympiacos, he parted ways with the team.[3]
On 15 March 2016, Ivanović was hired as the new head coach of the Russian clubKhimki.[4] On 29 June 2017, he parted ways with Khimki.[5]
On 20 August 2018, he signed a one-year deal withBeşiktaş.[6] In December 2019, Ivanović left Beşiktaş, to return as head coach forKirolbet Baskonia, once again. On 15 November 2021, he was fired again by Baskonia.
On 14 November 2022, Ivanović signed a two-year contract with theSerbian teamCrvena zvezda, joining one day after the firing of head coachVladimir Jovanović who was let go following apoor start inEuroLeague with only one win in 7 games.[7]
In December 2024, Ivanović signed withVirtus Bologna of the ItalianLega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague.[8] Virtus ended the EuroLeague at the 17th place, following a disappointing regular season. After the national championship season, ended at the first place, Virtus eliminatedReyer Venezia 3–2 and their arch-rivalOlimpia Milano 3–1, reaching their fifth finals in a row. They then defeatedPallacanestro Brescia 3–0, claiming the Italian championship title for the 17th time.[9][10] For Ivanović, this was the firstscudetto of his career.
