The Drugs I Need is asatiricalanimatedshort made byThe Animation Farm and theAustin Lounge Lizards and produced by theConsumers Union.[1]
The animationparodies a regularpharmaceuticaltelevision commercial, detailing the benefits the fictional drugProgenitorivox manufactured by fictional company SquabbMerlCo whose use is not described in detail.[2] Instead, a large number ofside effects are sung[3] to an upbeatmusicaljingle, which emphasizes that theconsumer should buyProgenitorivox— even if thegeneric drug is half the cost— if only to be like a family onTV. The animation ends with a seemingly randomdisclaimer, also a parody of pharmaceutical or "drug"advertisements.
The video won thePublic Affairs Council'sGrassroots Innovation Award in 2006.[4]
