Drest orDrust, son of Erp, is alegendary king of the Picts from 412 to 452.
ThePictish Chronicle tells that Drest reigned for 100 years and triumphed in 100 battles.[1] In the face of encroachment fromAngles,Britons andScots, he established control over much ofNorthern Britain after the disruption following the withdrawal of theRomans.[2] W.A. Cummins suggests that under his leadership the Picts may have expanded their territory as far south as the line ofHadrian's Wall.[3] The Pictish Chronicle states thatSaint Patrick went toIreland in the nineteenth year of Drest's reign, which would place it in the middle of the 5th century. TheChronicle claims that he exiled his brotherNechtan toIreland.John of Fordun claims that Drest reigned for 45 years in the time ofPalladius rather than Patrick, and conflates him with his brother Nechtan.[4]
The king lists record that he was followed by oneTalorc son of Aniel.
