Caroline Kouassiaman (also known asB. Caroline Kouassiaman) is an Ivorian-Americanfeminist activist andgrantmaker.[1] She serves as Executive Director of theInitiative Sankofa d'Afrique de l'Ouest (ISDAO), an organisation that supports feminist, LGBTQI, and social justice movements inWest Africa.[1][2][3] In 2025, she was recognised by Leading Ladies Africa as one of the "19 Influential African Women in International Development".[4]
Kouassiaman holds aB.A. in Economics and Diplomacy and World Affairs fromOccidental College, and two master's degrees bothPublic Administration andInternational Relations fromSyracuse University,United States.[1][5]
Kouassiaman has worked in feminist andLGBTQI-focused grantmaking and movement support for more than a decade.[4][6] Her roles have included positions in philanthropy, research coordination, and programme management.[4] She is the first and currentExecutive Director of the Initiative Sankofa d'Afrique de l'Ouest (ISDAO).[7][8]
Before joining ISDAO, she served as Senior Programme Officer for Sexual Health and Rights at theAmerican Jewish World Service (AJWS)[9] and earlier as a Programme Officer at theGlobal Fund for Women, where she supportedgrantmaking inSub-Saharan Africa.[10][11]
In 2025, the platform Leading Ladies Africa listed her among its "19 Influential African Women in International Development" alongsideJessica Horn,Hafsat Abiola andTsitsi Masiyiwa.[4]
