Downtown Records is an Americanrecord label based in New York City with offices in Los Angeles. Owned and operated by Josh Deutsch and Terence Lam, the label is distributed byInterscope Capitol Labels Group (formerlyGeffen Records andInterscope Records) in the US, in the UK distributed byPolydor Records, and in the EU distributed byThe Orchard.

Downtown's roster includes artists such asNick Murphy,Brett Dennen,Electric Guest,Tei Shi,Goldroom andTommy Genesis.

History

The label was co-founded by Josh Deutsch and Terence Lam in 2006 and grew to becomeDowntown Music with publishing, licensing, music services and Songtrust. In 2013 Downtown Records was purchased outright by its original co-founders[1] and now operates fully independent. The label's music was distributed bySony Music'sRED Distribution andCooperative Music.[2] It is now distributed byInterscope Records/Universal Music Group (nowGeffen Records).[3]

In addition to the sister label,Mercer Street Records, Downtown has label partnerships withDim Mak Records,Fool's Gold Records andMad Decent.[4]

Downtown Records also operates Downtown Events[5] – a festival and concert promotion company that produces The Downtown Music Festival.[6][7]
