Douglas K. Stuart (born February 8, 1943) is Professor of Old Testament atGordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, an interdenominational evangelical seminary.[1]
Stuart received hisB.A.magna cum laude fromHarvard College in 1964, spent two years atYale Divinity School, and in 1971 received hisPhD in Near Eastern Languages and Literature fromHarvard University, on meter in Hebrew Poetry.
He also served as the senior pastor of the Linebrook Church ofIpswich, Massachusetts, and was the former senior pastor of Boxford's First Congregational Church. He is the father of eight grown children, four of which he and his wife adopted. He currently resides inBradford, Massachusetts and watches over two tree farms inFarmington, New Hampshire.
His books includeHow to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, andHow to Read the Bible Book-By-Book (both of which he co-authored withNew Testament scholar and then fellow Gordon-Conwell professorGordon Fee);Old Testament Exegesis: A Primer for Students and Pastors;Hosea-Jonah (Word Biblical Commentary); andExodus (New American Commentary). His articles have appeared in such publications asChristianity Today andDecision magazine. He has been quoted inTime magazine, and also has appeared in the television seriesMysteries of the Bible andChristianity: The First Thousand Years.
