Doug ShipleyMP (born June 10, 1966)[1] is aCanadian politician who was elected to represent theriding ofBarrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte in theHouse of Commons of Canada in the2019 Canadian federal election.[3] He previously served on theBarrie City Council for Ward 3 from 2010 to 2019.[4]
Shipley is a formercity councillor for theBarrie City Council from 2010-2019. While serving as Councillor for Ward 3, Shipley served as Chair of Finance and Corporate Services, Chair of Infrastructure, Investment and Development Services Committee, and Deputy Chair of the Barrie Police Services Board. He also sat on several committees, including the Barrie and Area Physician Recruitment Task Force.
Shipley was first elected to represent the riding ofBarrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte in theHouse of Commons in the2019 Canadian federal election. Shipley was re-elected to represent the same riding at the44th Canadian Parliament.
On September 12, 2022 Shipley was appointed Associate Shadow Minister for Public Safety byConservative Party of Canada leaderPierre Poilievre. Shipley currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. Shipley has served on the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security since December 7, 2021.[5]
Previously, Shipley also served on the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and was appointed Deputy Shadow Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion by the previousConservative Party of Canada leaderErin O'Toole.
