Doug Belk (born September 16, 1987) is an Americanfootball coach who is currently the defensive backs coach atUSC. He last served as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach for Houston.
Belk began his coaching career in 2011 at Division IIValdosta State. In his first year he worked as a defensive assistant and assisted with the special teams. In2012 and2013 he coached the team’s secondary, and they went on to win a division 2 national championship.
In2014 Belk took a pay cut[1] in order to joinNick Saban’s Alabama staff as agraduate assistant.[2] He stayed there until the end of the2016 season,[3] winning a national championship in2015 and theSEC every year he was there.[4]
In2017 Belk was hired as theMountaineers cornerbacks’ coach.[1][5][6] He stayed there until the end of the2018 season.
On January 11,2019, it was announced that Belk followedDana Holgorsen toHouston[7] and became the team’s safeties coach in addition to the team’s co-defensive coordinator.[8] In January2020, he was given the additional title of associate head coach.[9] On January 19,2021 in addition to his positions as safeties coach and associate head coach, Belk was given control of the defense, becoming the sole defensive coordinator for Houston.[10][11] He stayed there until Holgorsen was fired at the end of the2023 season.
