Donovan Alan Osborne (born June 21, 1969) is an American formerMajor League Baseball player whopitched in the Major Leagues from1992 to2004.
Osborne attendedCarson High School inCarson City, Nevada before he was drafted by theMontreal Expos in the1987 Major League Baseball draft.After declining to sign with the Expos, Osborne attended theUniversity of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he played for theUNLV Rebels baseball team. Out of UNLV, Osborne was chosen by theSt. Louis Cardinals in the first round (13th overall) of the1990 amateur draft.
In the 1992 season, his Major League debut season, Osborne finished fifth inMLB Rookie of the Year Award voting.
Osborne was the Cardinals' Opening Day starter in1999. In 1996, Osborne won 13 games for the Cardinals, made 30 starts for the only time in his career, pitched198+2⁄3 innings, and posted a 3.53earned run average. He ranked among theNational League top-10 inwalks per nine innings, shutouts,ERA+, and strike-to-walk ratio.
