Doncaster City Football Club is an Englishfootball club based inDoncaster. The club plays in theNorthern Counties East League Division One.[2]

History

[edit]

The club was established in 2022 by agentWillie McKay,[3] and were initially placed into theSheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League for the 2022–23 season,[4] in which they were crowned champions of Division Two. However, they withdrew from this league after one season and instead joined theCentral Midlands Alliance for the 2023–24 season.[5]

They received national attention following a request to participate in theScottish Cup, attempting to exploit a loophole arguing that Doncaster was a part of Scotland as theTreaty of Durham, which gave the city to Scotland, was never officially withdrawn.[6] The club again reached national news in February 2024, after registering former international playersRoss McCormack,Charlie Mulgrew andWes Hoolahan.[7]

The club won promotion to the Northern Counties East League in 2025 after winning the Central Midlands Alliance North Division the previous season.
