Donald John Bosseler (January 24, 1936 – November 6, 2024) was an American professionalfootball player who was afullback in theNational Football League (NFL) for theWashington Redskins from 1957 to 1964. He playedcollege football for theMiami Hurricanes and was selected in the first round of the1957 NFL draft with the ninth overall pick. He was inducted into theCollege Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
Bosseler attended and playedhigh school football atBatavia High School inBatavia, New York.[1]
Bosseler was a four-year starter at fullback for theUniversity of Miami. In his senior year in 1956, he helped the team to an 8–1–1 record, was namedAll-America by theAssociated Press, and wasMVP in theSenior Bowl. He rushed for 1,642 yards in his four years.[1]
Bosseler was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 1970.
Bosseler was drafted ninth overall in the1957 NFL draft and played for seven seasons with theWashington Redskins before retiring. In 1959, he was named to thePro Bowl.
After his football days, Bosseler briefly served as a radio analyst forMiami Dolphins radio broadcasts before joiningPrudential Bache inMiami, where he became a vice-president.[1]
Bosseler died inAtlanta on November 6, 2024, at age 88.[2]
