Dominique Vien (born February 10, 1967)[1] is a Canadian politician who has been the MP forBellechasse—Les Etchemins—Lévis since the 2021 general election. She previous served as aQuebec Liberal Party Member of theNational Assembly of Quebec for the electoral district ofBellechasse from 2003 to 2007 and from 2008 to 2014, during which she served in the Quebec provincial cabinet.

Before politics

Born inLévis,Quebec, Vien studied atUniversité Laval and received abachelor's degree in communications in 1992. She also studied at theUniversité du Québec à Trois-Rivières in training, animation and leadership in 2001.[1]

From 1992 to 2003, she was a journalist, anchor and host at a radio station inLac-Etchemin and was a journalist and news anchor atRadio-Canada'sCBV-FM inQuebec City from 1999 to 2001.

During her brief time out of office between 2007 and 2008, she worked for theDesjardins Group as a communications advisor.[1]

Vein stood as theQuebec Liberal Party candidate in the electoral district ofBellechasse in the six Québec provincial general elections between2003 and2018.

She was first elected as itsMember of the National Assembly (MNA) in the2003 Quebec provincial election. During her first term, she served as the parliamentary secretary for the Minister of Culture and Communications.[1] She was briefly out of office following her defeat in the2007 election byJean Domingue of theAction démocratique du Québec.

Vien was re-elected in the same district in2008, and held the seat for the following decade until being defeated byCoalition Avenir Québec candidate Stéphanie Lachance in the2018 election that saw the CAQ forming government for the first time. Immediately following the 2008 election, she was promoted into thecabinet of Jean Charest [fr] asMinister for Government Services. She was reassigned to be the Minister Delegate (associate minister) for social services in 2010, serving underMinister of Health and Social ServicesYves Bolduc until the defeat of the Charest government in the2012 election. Upon theLiberals' return to power in 2014 after a brief stint in opposition, Vien joined thecabinet of Philippe Couillard [fr] astourism minister from 2014 to 2016. and aslabour minister and the government's deputy house leader from 2016 to 2018.[1]

Vien was defeated in the 2018 election when the Liberals lost more then half of their seats. From 2018 to 2021, she worked as the director general forLes Etchemins Regional County Municipality administration.[1]

Member of Parliament

Vien was elected as aConservativeMember of Parliament in theHouse of Commons of Canada for the electoral district ofBellechasse—Les Etchemins—Lévis in the2021 Canadian federal election.[2][3]

In the2022 Conservative leadership contest, Vien was one of several Conservative MPs who issued an open letter to urge former Québec premierJean Charest to enter the contest. Charest entered the contest but lost toPierre Poilievre.[4]

In late 2025, to quell speculation that she was among the Conservative MPs considering leaving the party, Vien released a video statement reaffirming her commitment to the party.[5]
