TheDomaine du roy ("King's Domain") was a vast region ofNew France extending north from the shore of theSaint Lawrence River between theseigneurie ofLes Éboulements (near the City ofQuebec) andCape Cormorant (near the present-day townLourdes) towards theHudson Bay watershed, an areaclaimed by Great Britain asRupert's Land, the territory covered an area of 460,000 km2.
Established in 1652, the Domaine du roy was renamed "King's Domain" after theFrench and Indian War.[1] A present-dayregional county municipality in theSaguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region ofQuebec also inherited the nameLe Domaine-du-Roy.
