Dixon Technologies is an Indianmultinationalelectronics manufacturing services company, based inNoida,Uttar Pradesh. It is acontract manufacturer oftelevisions,washing machines,smartphones,LED bulbs,battens,downlighters andCCTV security systems for companies such asSamsung,Xiaomi,Panasonic andPhilips.[4][5][6] It has 17 manufacturing units in India.[7] The company is listed onBSE andNSE since itsinitial public offering in 2017.[8][9]

History

Dixon Technologies was founded in 1993 by Sunil Vachani. His father, Sundar Vachani had been manufacturing televisions under the Weston brand, which had launched the first colour television in India; his business struggled later on due to the emergence of other companies.[10] Dixon initially manufactured 14-inch televisions,Sega video game consoles, Philips video recorders, and push-button phones forBharti Airtel. A major breakthrough came in the 2000s when the company won aGovernment contract to manufacture televisions.[11] Apart from televisions and video recorders, the company also started to manufactureair conditioners andmicrowave ovens forLG Electronics, as well asDVD players for other brands.[10]

In 2018, Dixon signed a deal withXiaomi to manufacture LED television sets at itsTirupati plant.[12]

In January 2020, Dixon entered a partnership withSamsung for the local production of LED televisions.[13]

In December 2024, Dixon Technologies and the Chinese mobile phone brand Vivo are forming a joint venture to manufacture electronic devices, including smartphones.[14]

Padget Electronics

In December 2020, it was reported that Dixon's subsidiary Padget Electronics would manufacture smartphones forMotorola.[15] In January 2021, Dixon announced that it would manufacture wireless speakers for the Indian company BoAt Lifestyle.[16] Later that month, Padget Electronics signed a contract withHMD Global to manufactureNokia smartphones at its Noida plant.[17]

For the US and European markets, Padget Electronics will produce the base model of thePixel smartphone in addition to other Google products. Full-scale manufacturing is scheduled to begin in September 2024.[18]

Operations

Dixon has 17 manufacturing units in India with over 15,000 employees.[7] It has India's largest manufacturing plants for LED televisions (inTirupati), washing machines (inDehradun) and LED bulbs (inNoida).[19][20] The company manufactures/assembles goods such as home appliances, smartphone, laptops, televisions, set top box, medical electronics, lights, security surveillance system.[7]
