TheDivision of Monash is anAustralian Electoral Division in thestate ofVictoria, which was contested for the first time at the2019 federal election.
The division is located in westernGippsland includingPhillip Island, and extends for the length of Victoria's easternBass Strait coastline. As of 2025[update], it covers the entire local government areas ofBass Coast Shire andSouth Gippsland Shire, the majority ofShire of Baw Baw, and a portion ofCity of Latrobe. It is the southernmost Electoral Division in continental Australia.
Federal electoral division boundaries in Australia are determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by theAustralian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned.[1]
When the division was created in 2018, it encompassed areas ofWest Gippsland andSouth Gippsland previously in the abolishedDivision of McMillan, with the exception of the suburb ofPakenham and the town ofYallourn North, which were instead gained by theDivision of La Trobe andDivision of Gippsland respectively.[2] The new division also gained areas from theDivision of Flinders in theBass Coast Shire and the southern part ofShire of Cardinia, such asKoo Wee Rup,Lang Lang andPhillip Island. In 2021, it lost all areas within the Shire of Cardinia such as Koo Wee Rup andBunyip to the Division of La Trobe. It did not undergo any boundary changes in the 2024 redistribution.[3]
As of the 2024 redistribution, it covered the entire local government areas of Bass Coast Shire andSouth Gippsland Shire, and the majority ofShire of Baw Baw (except a tiny and unpopulated area near Yallourn North). It also included a small portion ofCity of Latrobe atMoe.[4] It includes the towns ofWarragul,Moe,Wonthaggi,Leongatha andFoster. Overall it stretches fromMount Baw Baw and theBaw Baw National Park in the north toWilsons Promontory, and theWilsons Promontory National Park in the south, includingPhillip Island.

Monash was created in the mandatoryredistribution ofdivisions in Victoria by theAustralian Electoral Commission in 2018.[5] It is named in honour ofSir John Monash, an AustralianAllied military commander duringWorld War I. It replaced the similarly-locatedDivision of McMillan in 2018.
Prior to the2022 federal election, the seat was notionally held by theLiberal Party of Australia on a margin of 6.9%, making it afairly safe seat for the party.[6] It is now held on a margin of 2.9%, making itmarginal.[7] The seat gainedPhillip Island at the 2018 redistribution.
