Dionysopithecidae is an extinct family of fossilcatarrhines and the earliest-known and most primitive members of thePliopithecoidea superfamily, with fossils inSihong,China dating to 18–17 million years ago for speciesDionysopithecus shuangouensis andPlatodontopithecus jianghuaiensis.[1]
A single lowermolar found inBan San Klang inThailand is similar to those found in Sihong but sufficiently different to be considered a different species,Dionysopithecus orientalis.[1]
They are sometimes treated as a subfamily ofPliopithecidae as 'Dionysopithecinae'.[2]
