Dimelaena oreina, thegolden moonglow lichen, is a greenish yellowplacodioid lichen.[3] The color of the greenish yellowthallus is derived fromusnic acid in thecortex.[3]
The lichen grows on steep surfaces of hardsiliceous rock from 400 to 2,800 metres (1,300 to 9,200 ft).[3] It has a worldwide distribution outside the tropics, Australasia, and Antarctica.[3] It is common in theSonoran Desert ofArizona,California,Baja California,Baja California Sur,Sonora, Mexico, andChihuahua, Mexico.[3]
