Dilip Joshi is anIndian actor (born 26 may 1968) who works inHindi films and television and is best known for portraying the lead role in the long-running Indian Hindi-language televisionsitcom,Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, in which he plays the role of a businessmanJethalal Champaklal Gada, who gets himself in many problems and troubles. The show originally broadcasts on the channelSony SAB.[2]

Early life and education

Joshi was born in Mumbai. He started acting at the age of 12.[3] While doingBCA, he was awarded theINT (Indian National Theater) Best Actor.[4] He was also a co-owner of a travel agency.[5]

Joshi's early career consisted of commercial stage performances as a backstage artist, earning approximately Rs 50 per role. He also appeared in films which includedMaine Pyar Kiya andHum Aapke Hain Koun..!. He also had a minor role in the filmKhiladi 420.[3]

During 2008, Joshi began a long run playing the role ofJethalal Champaklal Gada in the sitcomTaarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.[3] For his performance in the show, he received several accolades, including fiveTelly awards and threeITA awards.[6]
