Digger is an upcomingblack comedy film directed byAlejandro G. Iñárritu who co-wrote the script withSabina Berman,Alexander Dinelaris Jr., andNicolás Giacobone. It was a co-production of theUnited States,United Kingdom, andMexico.[2] The film stars anensemble cast includingTom Cruise,Jesse Plemons,Sandra Hüller,Riz Ahmed,Sophie Wilde,Emma D'Arcy,Robert John Burke,Burn Gorman,Michael Stuhlbarg, andJohn Goodman.

Digger is scheduled to be released in the United States byWarner Bros. Pictures on October 2, 2026.

In February 2024, it was announced thatAlejandro G. Iñárritu would be directing his first English-language film sinceThe Revenant (2015), which he co-wrote and produced.Tom Cruise was cast in the lead role after attending a meeting with Iñárritu, following his strategic partnership withWarner Bros. Pictures.Legendary Pictures was announced to produce the film.[4] In August,Sandra Hüller,John Goodman,Michael Stuhlbarg,Jesse Plemons andSophie Wilde would be added to the cast, withRiz Ahmed in negotiations to also join.[5] In early 2025,Emma D'Arcy,Robert John Burke andBurn Gorman were revealed to have joined the cast.[6][7]

Filming

Principal photography began in the United Kingdom on November 7, 2024, withEmmanuel Lubezki serving as the cinematographer and concluded in late April 2025.[8][9][10] The film was shot on35mm film usingVistaVision.[11] Filming was halted for two days in March 2025 when Goodman endured a minor hip injury for which he was hospitalized.[12] Production wrapped on May 3, 2025, after six months of filming under theworking titleJudy.[13][14] Later that month, Iñárritu confirmed in an interview that the film would be a comedy.[13]

Post-production

In December 2025, the title was officially revealed asDigger alongside a one minute teaser.[15] Also in December, journalistMatt Belloni reported that the film had been greenlit with a $125 million production budget, as a part of theWarner Bros. Pictures chiefsMichael De Luca andPamela Abdy strategy ofauteur driven productions, following the critical success ofSinners andOne Battle After Another in 2025.[16]
