"Destiny of X" is a 2022 relaunch of theX-Men line of comic books published byMarvel Comics. It is thesequel to "Reign of X" following the end of the dual miniseriesX Lives of Wolverine andX Deaths of Wolverine.[1] It was the third phase of theKrakoan Age, and the first following the departure ofJonathan Hickman at the end of "Reign of X.” “Destiny of X” included the crossover eventsA.X.E.: Judgment Day andSins of Sinister. A sequel, "Fall of X," was launched in August 2023.
The previous phase Reign of X concluded withX Lives of Wolverine andX Deaths of Wolverine (January – March 2022) which led into Destiny of X.[2][3][4]
This phase included the crossover eventA.X.E.: Judgment Day (July – November 2022) which focused on humanity's discovery of the mutant resurrection protocols and the subsequent conflict between theAvengers, the X-Men and theEternals. This event was written byKieron Gillen with art by Valerio Schiti.[5]X-Men Red by writerAl Ewing, with art by Stefano Caselli, focuses on theterraformed Mars now known as Arrako which serves as the home to millions of mutants freed during theX of Swords crossover.[6][7][8] TheMarauders series was relaunched with writerSteve Orlando, artist Eleonora Carlini, and colorist Matt Milla as the new creative team.[9][10][11]Screen Rant commented that in the first volume the Marauders were "tasked with protecting the interests of the Hellfire Trading Company's black-market and rescuing mutant refugees feeling from unfriendly nations, returning them to safety on Krakoa. Now that most of the world's mutants have been relocated to Krakoa from dangerous territories, and X-Force taking on more responsibility with retrieving stolen Hellfire goods, Pryde is repositioning her Marauders team as a mutant Search and Rescue squad".[10] Additionally, Gilleon began writing theImmortal X-Men series with artist Lucas Werneck which focused on the Quiet Council of Krakoa;[12][13] this series built plot points for theSins of Sinister (January – April 2023) event which concluded the phase.[14][15]
In May 2024, X-Men Group Editor Jordan D. White commented that the anthology collection "format was shelved" and there would not be compliedtrade paperbacks for Destiny of X orFall of X.[16]
