Desmocyon is an extinct genus of theBorophaginae subfamily ofcanids native toNorth America. It lived from theLate Oligocene to theEarly Miocene, 24.8—16.3Mya, existing for approximately8.5 mya.[1] It is a rarely found genus,[citation needed] with fossil deposits only occurring in westernNebraska,Wyoming,New Mexico and northFlorida. It is regarded as a primitive, transitional member of theBorophagini tribe.[2]
