Desmethylcitalopram is anactive metabolite of theantidepressantdrugscitalopram (racemic) andescitalopram (theS-enantiomer, which would be calleddesmethylescitalopram).[1][2] Like citalopram and escitalopram, desmethylcitalopram functions as aselective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and is responsible for some of its parent’stherapeutic benefits.
