Thedeputy prime minister of the Netherlands (Dutch:Viceminister-president van Nederland orVicepremier van Nederland) is the officialdeputy of thehead of government of theNetherlands. In the absence of theprime minister of the Netherlands the deputy prime minister takes over his functions, such as chairing theCabinet of the Netherlands and theCouncil of Ministers of the Netherlands. Conventionally, all of the junior partners in the coalition get one deputy, and the deputies are ranked according to the size of their respective parties in theHouse of Representatives.
