Denny Mountain is summit nearSnoqualmie Pass inWashington state. TheAlpental ski area is located on the mountain's eastern flank.
The mountain is named afterArthur A. Denny of theDenny Party,[3] who oversaw the construction of the Snoqualmie Pass Road, which later becameI-90, and which runs along the mountain's southern base.
Denny Mountain is located in themarine west coast climate zone of westernNorth America.[4] Mostweather fronts originate in thePacific Ocean, and travel northeast toward theCascade Mountains. As fronts approach, they are forced upward by the peaks of the Cascade Range, causing them to drop their moisture in the form ofrain orsnowfall onto the Cascades (Orographic lift). As a result, the west side of the Cascades experiences high precipitation, especially during the winter months in the form of snowfall. During winter months, weather is usually cloudy, but, due to high pressure systems over the Pacific Ocean that intensify during summer months, there is often little or no cloud cover during the summer.[5] Because ofmaritime influence, snow tends to be wet and heavy, resulting in highavalanche danger.[5]
