Dennis Reeves (born 1 December 1944) is a Scottish formerfootballer who played as agoalkeeper.
Although born in Scotland, Reeves spent his entire playing career in England and Wales. He was invited to trials atChester in 1961, making his debut inThe Football League for the club againstRochdale in October 1963.[1] He was a regular in the side for the next three years. On 9 January 1965, he made a superb one-handed save atOld Trafford to denyBobby Charlton in Chester's 2-1 defeat againstManchester United in theFA Cup third round.[1]
Reeves asked Chester for a transfer after losing his place toTerry Carling during the1966–67 season. In October 1967 he moved to local rivalsWrexham where he made 15 league appearances. In 1969 he began playingNon-League football withWigan Athletic.[1][2] Reeves felt he produced the best form of his career playing at Wigan'sSpringfield Park,[1] which included the1973 final of theFA Trophy atWembley Stadium.[1] He went on to make a total of 233 appearances for theNorthern Premier League club.[3]
Reeves announced his retirement at the end of the1974–75 season.[4] Back inChester, he worked as apainter and decorator,[1] and played club cricket.[5]
