TheDemocratic Socialist Coalition (Spanish:Coalición Socialista Democrática, CSD) was aCubanpolitical coalition, led byFulgencio Batista.
This political coalition was founded in 1939, and served for the1940 general elections, won by Batista. The founding parties and members were five: theLiberal Party (liberal), theNationalist Union Party (conservative), theCommunist Revolutionary Union (communist), theDemocratic National Association (conservative), andRepublican Democratic Party.
The Coalition won 36 of 162Deputies, against the 45 ofOpposition Front.[8] In the1944 election, the coalition supported the presidential candidacy ofCarlos Saladrigas Zayas as President andRamón Zaydín as Vice President, but it was made up of these parties in 1944: Liberal Party of Cuba,Popular Socialist Party,Democratic Party, andABC. However, the election was won byRamón Grau San Martín.
