Thedeep circumflex iliac vein is formed by the union of thevenae comitantes of thedeep iliac circumflex artery.[1] It drains venous blood from the walls of theiliac fossa.[2] It empties into theexternal iliac vein about 2 cm superior to theinguinal ligament,[3] just distal to where theinferior epigastric vein does so.[1] The DCIV runs across theexternal iliac artery.[1] It forms anastomoses with theiliolumbar vein, and lower twolumbar veins.[2]
