Thedeep auricular artery is a branch of themaxillary artery. The deep auricular artery pierces theexternal acoustic meatus. It provides arterial supply to the skin of theexternal acoustic meatus, and contributes arterial supply to thetympanic membrane, and (via a branch) thetemporomandibular joint.[1]
It is a branch of the (mandibular part of) themaxillary artery.[1] It often arises in common with theanterior tympanic artery.[citation needed]
It ascends[2] in the substance of theparotid gland, behind thetemporomandibular articulation,[citation needed] and pierces the cartilaginous or bony wall of theexternal acoustic meatus[1] to course between the cartilage and bone.[2]
It supplies its cuticular lining and the outer surface of thetympanic membrane.[citation needed]
It gives a branch to thetemporomandibular joint.[1]
