David Motta Soares (born March 13, 1997) is a Brazilianclassical ballet dancer. He was aleading soloist with theBolshoi Ballet. In May 2022 David became a Principal Dancer with theBerlin State Ballet.

Biography

Born inCabo Frio, David Motta Soares began his dance studies at the Regina and Ofelia Corvello Ballet School in 2007. After theYouth America Grand Prix competition inNew York, he was invited to attend the Annual Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive inMiddlebury, Connecticut in 2010. At the age of 12 he left Brazil forMoscow to enter theBolshoi Ballet Academy. Whilst a student, he performed inHarlequinade,Nacho Duato's «L’amorosso», and danced the Grand Pas Classique (music byDaniel Auber, choreography byVictor Gzovsky). In 2014 David performed as Colas inLa Fille mal gardée at the stage of theBolshoi Theatre and participated in the academy's tour toMilan andRome. At his graduation concert he danced thepas de deux fromDon Quixote.

He graduated in 2015 and was accepted in the Bolshoi Ballet as a member of thecorps de ballet.[1] Within two years, with Vladimir Nikonov as mentor, he was given the leading roles in the balletsGisele,The Nutcracker, andSwan Lake as well as taking part in the Bolshoi contemporary productions.

David has participated in the Bolshoi Ballet tours to Europe, Asia, America and Australia.
