David Alan Hornsby[1] (born December 1, 1975) is an American actor and screenwriter. He is best known for a recurring role asdefrocked priest Matthew "Rickety Cricket" Mara on theFX comedy seriesIt's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for which he also writes and produces. Hornsby had a regular role on theNBC comedy-crime seriesGood Girls (2018–2020). He is the voice of Fanboy in theNickelodeon animated TV seriesFanboy & Chum Chum.
Hornsby was born inNewport News, Virginia, on December 1, 1975.[2][3] He is a cousin of musicianBruce Hornsby.[4] He grew up inHouston, Texas, and majored in acting atCarnegie Mellon University.
Hornsby plays defrocked priest Matthew "Rickety Cricket" Mara on theFX comedy seriesIt's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, also serving as an executive producer and writer on the show. He appeared as Steve "The Hutch" Hutchinson onThe Joe Schmo Show, and as Patrick onSix Feet Under. His first animated role was Fanboy inFanboy & Chum Chum. He also starred in the independent filmPretty Bird.
Hornsby appeared inPearl Harbor,Minority Report, andFlags of Our Fathers (in which he played USMC photographerLouis R. Lowery). He created and performed in the podcastYoda and Me along with Loren Tarquinio.[5] He adapted and created theCBS sitcomHow to Be a Gentleman, serving as its lead actor, writer, and producer; CBS canceled the series in its first season. Hornsby co-wrote, designed characters, and lent his voice to FX's cartoonUnsupervised, which lasted for one season. Most recently, he created theNBC pilot forMission Control, produced byGary Sanchez Productions forNBC a workplace sitcom set at NASA'sJohnson Space Centerc. 1965.[6]
Hornsby portrays executive producer David Brittlesbee inMythic Quest, acomedyweb television series starringRob McElhenney forApple TV+. Hornsby also served as a writer and executive producer for the show which premiered on February 7, 2020.
On September 25, 2010, Hornsby married actressEmily Deschanel inPacific Palisades, California.[7] They have two sons together: Henry Lamar (b. September 21, 2011)[8] and Calvin (b. June 8, 2015).[9]
