David H. Steinberg is an Americanwriter,director, andproducer for film and television.[1] He wrote the screenplays forAmerican Pie 2,Slackers,National Lampoon's Barely Legal, andAmerican Pie Presents:The Book of Love andGirls' Rules. He is currently theExecutive Producer andShowrunner onNo Good Nick, which streamed onNetflix in 2019.

Early life

Steinberg grew up inWest Hartford, Connecticut, where he attendedWilliam H. Hall High School. He isJewish.[2]

Steinberg enteredYale University at age 16. He later earned hisJuris Doctor degree fromDuke University, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review.[3] Following his graduation from Duke Law, he clerked for JudgeJerry E. Smith of theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for a year. After four years of entertainment law in Atlanta and New York, he abandoned his legal career to attendUSC'sPeter Stark Producing Program.[4]

Before graduating, Steinberg sold his firstspec script calledSlackers, which was made into the 2002 film.[5] After that sale, Steinberg was immediately hired byUniversal to write the first two drafts ofAmerican Pie 2.[6][failed verification]

Filmography

Steinberg also wroteAfter School Special, a story about three high school friends who attempt to make a porn movie.[7] The movie was eventually released under the titleNational Lampoon's Barely Legal.[8] In addition, Steinberg wrote the seventh and ninth films in theAmerican Pie series,American Pie Presents: The Book of Love in 2009 andAmerican Pie Presents: Girls' Rules in 2020, as well as cowriting the second film,American Pie 2.

Steinberg wrote and directed the short filmThe Babysitter starringAcademy Award winnerBrie Larson, which went viral with over four million views on the now-defunctAtom Films before achieving immortal status onFunny or Die.[9] His feature film directorial debutMiss Dial starsRobinne Lee andSam Jaeger[10] and premiered at the Macon Film Festival on February 16, 2013, where it received the Audience Choice Award.[11] It was released on DVD and VOD by Phase 4 Films in 2013.

He wroteDisneyToon Studios'Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games, which premiered on theDisney Channel and theDreamWorks animated feature filmPuss In Boots. He also wrote the live-action body-switching movieFurry Friday forNew Line Cinemas[12][13]and created and executive produced a TV pilot forABC Family calledPhys. Ed.

Yo-kai Watch

Steinberg is the head writer on the U.S. adaptation of the hit Japanese anime seriesYo-kai Watch. With his writing partner Keetgi Kogan, he wrote 77 episodes in the first three seasons which air onDisney XD.[18]

No Good Nick

Steinberg, together with his writing partner Keetgi Kogan, created the multicam comedyNo Good Nick forNetflix which starsMelissa Joan Hart andSean Astin, released in 2019. He served as theExecutive Producer andShowrunner.[19]
