Charles James David FoxCM (March 24, 1941 – November 13, 2021), known professionally asDavid Fox, was a Canadian actor.^[1][2]

Fox was born inSwastika, Ontario in 1941.^[1] He was best known for his role as schoolteacher Clive Pettibone inRoad to Avonlea, and for a variety of roles on television. He was also the voice ofCaptain Haddock inThe Adventures of Tintin.^[1]

In 1996 he was nominated for aGenie Award for the filmWhen Night is Falling, and in 2008 he was nominated for a Gemini Award for the television miniseriesAcross the River to Motor City.

Fox also acted extensively on stage, including productions of1837: The Farmer's Revolt,^[1]Quiet in the Land,^[1]Nothing Sacred,^[1]The Drawer Boy^[1] andKing Lear.^[3] He was made a Member of theOrder of Canada in 2018 for his work.^[4]

Fox died ofcancer inToronto on November 13, 2021, at the age of 80.^[1][5][2][6]

On 21 April 2023,Canadore College honoured Fox by naming a theatre in his honour - the David Fox Stage.^[7] His sons Jason Fox andGavin Fox were in attendance at the special dedication.
