Charles James David FoxCM (March 24, 1941 – November 13, 2021), known professionally asDavid Fox, was a Canadian actor.[1][2]

Biography

Fox was born inSwastika, Ontario in 1941.[1] He was best known for his role as schoolteacher Clive Pettibone inRoad to Avonlea, and for a variety of roles on television. He was also the voice ofCaptain Haddock inThe Adventures of Tintin.[1]

In 1996 he was nominated for aGenie Award for the filmWhen Night is Falling, and in 2008 he was nominated for a Gemini Award for the television miniseriesAcross the River to Motor City.

Fox also acted extensively on stage, including productions of1837: The Farmer's Revolt,[1]Quiet in the Land,[1]Nothing Sacred,[1]The Drawer Boy[1] andKing Lear.[3] He was made a Member of theOrder of Canada in 2018 for his work.[4]

Fox died ofcancer inToronto on November 13, 2021, at the age of 80.[1][5][2][6]

On 21 April 2023,Canadore College honoured Fox by naming a theatre in his honour - the David Fox Stage.[7] His sons Jason Fox andGavin Fox were in attendance at the special dedication.
