David Abidor (nicknamed "Slabby"; born October 5, 1992)[1] is an Americansoccer player. He played college soccer forUniversity of Dayton andCreighton University, and in 2012 was namedAll-America byJewish Sports Review. He has also played forDalkurd FF,Tulsa Roughnecks,New York Red Bulls II,FC Haka,Hapoel Petah Tikva,Hapoel Bnei Lod, and theOakland Roots. Abidor played for Team USA at the2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel, winning a gold medal.

Early life

He was born inNorthbrook, Illinois, and is Jewish.[2][3] His parents are Boris and Anna Abidor.[3] He attendedGlenbrook South High School, for which he played soccer.[3][4]

Career

College and amateur

Abidor played four years ofcollege soccer, three atDayton University (where he was a business major) from 2011 to 2013, playing in 51 games (47 starts).[5] He played in his senior year atCreighton University (where he was a finance major) 2014.[6][4]

In 2011 he was a PreseasonA-10 All-Rookie Team selection.[3] In 2012 he was namedAll-America byJewish Sports Review.[3]

Abidor competed in thePremier Development League with bothJersey Express[7] andIMG Academy Bradenton.[8]

Professional

Abidor went undrafted in the2015 MLS SuperDraft. After a trial withReal Salt Lake, Abidor moved to SwedishDivision 1 sideDalkurd FF.[9] He struggled for playing time and spent a brief time with fifth-tier side IFK Stockaryd/Rörviks IF.

He then returned to the United States withUnited Soccer League sideTulsa Roughnecks. Abidor made his debut for Tulsa on 27 March 2016, scoring the opening goal for his club in a 2–0 victory overRio Grande Valley FC Toros.[10] In his one season with Tulsa he appeared in 29 league matches scoring 1 goal.

On 21 March 2017, Abidor signed withNew York Red Bulls II after joining the team for a preseason trial.[11] He made his debut with the club on 25 March 2017, starting in a 3–3 draw withPittsburgh Riverhounds.[12] On 14 April 2017, Abidor scored his first goal for New York, helping the club to a 3–1 victory overOrlando City B.[13] He left the club in December 2017 at the end of his contract.[14]

In April 2018, Abidor joinedFC Haka inYkkönen.[15]

In 2019 he played in Israel withHapoel Petah Tikva and withHapoel Bnei Lod.[16] In 2020, Abidor then returned to the United States to joinOakland Roots SC.[17]

Abidor signed with first-yearNational Independent Soccer Association clubChicago House AC, becoming the first defender to join the club.[18]

International

Abidor played for Team USA at the2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel, winning a gold medal.[19][20][21]
