David Winslow Sunday Jr. (born June 13, 1975) is an American politician and lawyer serving as thePennsylvania attorney general since 2025. A member of theRepublican Party, he previously served asdistrict attorney ofYork County, Pennsylvania from 2018 to 2025.
Sunday was born on June 13, 1975, inHarrisburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated fromEast Pennsboro High School in 1993. Sunday enrolled atHarrisburg Area Community College, but dropped out to enlist in theUnited States Navy,[1] where he served from 1995 to 1999.[2] He then graduated fromPennsylvania State University and theWidener University Commonwealth Law School.
Sunday began his legal career as a law clerk for a judge in the York County Court of Common Pleas.[3] He then joined the district attorney's office in York County, Pennsylvania in 2009.[4]
In 2013, theU.S. Department of Justice appointed Sunday as a specialassistant U.S. attorney for theMiddle District of Pennsylvania. Sunday won the November 2017 election to serve as district attorney of York County,[4] and took office in January 2018.[2]
In July 2023, Sunday announced his candidacy in the2024 election forPennsylvania attorney general.[2][5] He defeated state representativeCraig Williams in the Republican primary election and defeatedDemocratic nomineeEugene DePasquale in the general election.[6][7]
Sunday and his wife, Lishani Senaratne, have a son.[8]
