David Gary Hathcock (born July 20, 1943) is an American former professionalfootball player who was adefensive back in theNational Football League (NFL).

Biography

David Gary Hathcock was a student atKingsbury High School.[2] He attendedMemphis State University, gaining entrance, in 1961, on the university's firsttrack and fieldscholarship, specializing in hurdles and jumping events.[1][2] Needing to stay an extra year at the college, after the end of his scholarship, he switched to playingcollege football as alinebacker for theMemphis Tigers.[1]

Hathcock was selected by theGreen Bay Packers in the 17th round (258th overall) of the1966 NFL draft.[3] With the Packers, he was on the champion team ofSuper Bowl I.[2][4] However, he only played one season with the Packers as a reserve defensive back, and was traded to theNew York Giants in 1967.[3][5] He played for the Giants, until 1969.[6]

After his sporting career he taught and couched inNashville, Tennessee. In the year 2000 he was inducted into the Memphis Tigers Hall of Fame.[2] As of 2015, he had retired.[3]
