Dasrath Tirkey was a member of theAll India Trinamool Congress and won the2014 Indian general elections from theAlipurduars (Lok Sabha constituency). In 2019, he lost the election.[1]

Three Left Front MLAs, Dasarath Tirkey andAnanta Deb Adhikari ofRSP(I) and Sunil Mandal ofAll India Forward Bloc joined TMC in February 2014.[2] He joinedBhartiya Janata Party in 2020.

While in RSP, Dasrath Tirkey was MLA for three consecutive terms in2001,2006 and2011 elections, fromKumargram assembly seat.[3][4][5] He was elected M.P. before he completed his last term as MLA.
