Darryl Hinds is a Canadian actor and sketch comedian, best known as a cast member ofRoyal Canadian Air Farce's annualNew Year's Eve specials in the 2010s.[1]
Hinds was born in Canada toJamaican immigrants, with anAfro-Jamaican father and anIndo-Caribbean mother.[1]
He had stage acting roles in his early career,[2] and was a member of the sketch comedy troupe Electric Boogaloo,[3] before joining the Toronto company ofThe Second City in 2007 as a cast member in the revueFacebook of Revelations.[4] He also starred in the 2008 revueBarack to the Future, in which he appeared in several sketches asBarack Obama,[5] and in the 2009 shows0% Down, 100% Screwed[6] andShut Up and Show Us Your Tweets.[7]
He joined theRoyal Canadian Air Farce for a 2014 special,[8] remaining with the troupe until their final special in 2019.[9]
In 2020, he participated inMass Hysterical: A Comedic Cantata, a webcast collaboration between Second City alumni and theToronto Symphony Orchestra which presented a comedic history of the use of classical and liturgical music in the church.
As an actor, he has had recurring or guest roles in the television seriesCombat Hospital,Little Mosque on the Prairie,Rookie Blue,Odd Squad andMurdoch Mysteries,[1] and a starring role in the 2021 family sitcomOverlord and the Underwoods.[10] He received aCanadian Screen Award nomination forBest Actor in a Comedy Series at the10th Canadian Screen Awards in 2022, forOverlord and the Underwoods.[11]
