Darrin L. Williams is an American lawyer and politician from theU.S. state ofArkansas. A member of theDemocratic Party, Williams is a former member of theArkansas House of Representatives from District 36. He wasterm-limited and ineligible to run for re-election in 2014. He was House Speaker Pro Tempore for the term from March 2012 to December 2012.
Williams is fromLittle Rock, Arkansas.[1] When Williams was a teenager,Bill Clinton, then thegovernor of Arkansas, appointed him to a school consolidation board.[2] He attendedLittle Rock Central High School and wasstudent body president in 1986.[2] He then received hisbachelor's degree fromHendrix College, hisMaster of Laws degree fromGeorgetown University Law Center, and hisJuris Doctor fromVanderbilt University School of Law.[1] During this time, he worked as anintern forBill McCuen, theSecretary of State of Arkansas, andDavid Pryor, then a member of theUnited States Senate. Williams worked as a deputy director of theDemocratic National Committee during theClinton presidency.[2]
Williams worked forMark Pryor as hischief of staff, while Pryor wasAttorney General of Arkansas, and as his deputy attorney general. He ran for the Arkansas House inPulaski County for the first time in 2008.[2] He is apartner at thelaw firm Carney Williams Bates Pulliam & Bowman,[2] and is the CEO ofSouthern Bancorp Inc.[1]
In September 2021,PresidentJoe Biden appointed Williams to theCommunity Development Advisory Board.[3]
