Darren Liddel (born 6 May 1971) was anOlympic weightlifter for New Zealand.[1]
At the1998 Commonwealth Games inKuala Lumpur he won three gold medals, one in each of the men's 105+ kgclean and jerk,snatch and combined total. He also competed at the1994 Commonwealth Games inVictoria where he placed 5th in the men's 108+ kg.[2]
Of his return toTe Atatū from Kuala Lumpur Liddel said: "Little did I know three weeks ago that I would be returning home to this kind of welcome. I’m speechless".[3] The contest worsened a wrist injury, and within two years he had stopped weightlifting.[4]
