Darren Fisher (born September 10, 1965) is a Canadian politician who served as theminister of veterans affairs andassociate minister of national defence from December 2024 to March 2025. A member of theLiberal Party, Fisher was elected to theHouse of Commons following the2015 election, serving as themember of Parliament (MP) forDartmouth—Cole Harbour. Fisher served on Halifax Regional Council from 2009 to 2015.
Fisher was elected to Parliament in 2015. He was the parliamentary secretary to the minister of health from 2019 to 2021, to the minister of economic development and official languages for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency from March to August 2021, to the minister of seniors from 2021 to 2023, and to the associate minister of health and minister of mental health and addictions from 2023 to 2024. Fisher was a member of theNational Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) April to December 2024.[1]
Fisher joinedCabinet on December 20, 2024, when he was appointedMinister of Veterans Affairs andAssociate Minister of National Defence. His appointment came asPrime MinisterJustin Trudeau shuffled Cabinet following theresignation of Chrystia Freeland, who wasDeputy Prime Minister andMinister of Finance, as well as several other ministers.[1][2] Fisher was dropped from cabinet on March 14, 2025, upon the formation of the30th Canadian Ministry led byMark Carney.
