Darren Mark Caskey (born 21 August 1974) is an English football coach and former professionalfootballer.

As a player, he was amidfielder who notably played in thePremier League forTottenham Hotspur. He also played in theFootball League forWatford,Reading,Notts County,Bristol City,Peterborough United andRushden & Diamonds, in the United States withVirginia Beach Mariners and in non-league football withHornchurch,Kettering Town,Halesowen Town,Ilkeston Town andGateshead. He was capped atEngland U18 andU19 level.

Since retirement, Caskey has coached at Ilkeston Town, later taking on the role as assistant manager atWrexham before a similar spell atYork City.

Club career

Caskey was born inBasildon, Essex.[1] A centralmidfielder, he started his career as a trainee atTottenham Hotspur, but failed to live up to early potential.[2][3] He went on to have notable spells atReading andNotts County, also playing forPeterborough United andRushden & Diamonds,[4] where he scored once againstShrewsbury Town.[5] He ended his career as a player and assistant manager withIlkeston Town, remaining in the same role withIlkeston after the original club's liquidation.[6][7]

International career

Hecaptained theEngland national under-18 team that won the1993 UEFA European Under-18 Championship, scoring the winningpenalty kick in the 1–0 victory againstTurkey in the final.[8] He wascapped by theEngland schools team.[1]

Coaching career

Caskey combined his playing duties with the role of assistant manager forIlkeston Town andIlkeston under managerKevin Wilson.[6] In September 2013, he became assistant manager atGateshead underGary Mills.[9]

Caskey followed Mills toWrexham on 1 June 2015, after compensation was agreed between the two clubs.[10] Caskey left the club on 26 October 2016, shortly after Mills was dismissed.[11] Caskey had already been assisting Mills after his appointment atYork City, working without a title or a contract.[12] He eventually adopted the position of football consultant.[13] He was dismissed alongside Mills on 30 September 2017.[14]

Personal life

His sonJake Forster-Caskey plays forStevenage, transferring fromCharlton Athletic in January 2023.[15][16][17]
