The second season is scheduled to premiere onDisney+ on March 4, 2026, and will consist of eight episodes. It will be part ofPhase Six of the MCU. A third season was confirmed in September 2025.[1]
Charlie Cox asMatt Murdock / Daredevil: A blind lawyer with superhuman senses fromHell's Kitchen, New York, who leads a double life as a masked vigilante.[8] Murdock forms a resistance group during the season to fight back against Wilson Fisk and his anti-vigilante agenda.[9]
Vincent D'Onofrio asWilson Fisk / Kingpin: A powerful businessman andcrime lord who is themayor of New York City.[10] Executive producerBrad Winderbaum said Fisk acts like a king when he takes over as mayor, and that "puts him in a new class of power players on the international stage".[11] Fisk is going after vigilantes through his "Safer Streets Initiative", which executive producerSana Amanat noted is everything he hoped to achieve, with the season exploring whether that would be enough for him.[12]
Deborah Ann Woll asKaren Page: A former reporter and Murdock's friend and former partner at theNelson, Murdock & Page law firm.[13] Cox said Karen would be part of Murdock's resistance group during the season, and the pair would be working at night to "find a crack in the armor" while spending their days together waiting, hinting at a possible rekindled romance between the two.[14]
Wilson Bethel asBenjamin "Dex" Poindexter / Bullseye: A psychopathic assassin and formerFBI agent who is a highly skilledmarksman capable of using almost any object as a lethal projectile.[15] Bethel said the season featured new sides to Dex's personality that had not been seen before, and he was excited for fans to see the "fun, insane stuff" that he got to do with the character in the season.[16]
Krysten Ritter asJessica Jones: A former vigilante suffering fromPTSD who runs her own detective agency and becomes Murdock's resistance ally. She has superhuman strength and limited flight abilities.[19][20] Ritter said it felt like no time had passed since she starred as Jones inMarvel's Netflix television seriesJessica Jones (2015–2019), and she found it creatively fulfilling to contrast her performance inBorn Again with her concurrent role as Mia LaPierre / Lady Vengeance in the seriesDexter: Resurrection (2025–present).[21] Cox described Jones as anantihero and said she and Murdock have a mutual respect despite their differing opinions of each other.[22] Amanat said Jones joins with Murdock despite her aversion toteam-ups because "it feels like it's very personal", with the character bringing an "edginess and lightness" to the season that "cuts through the [bullshit] in a really fun way".[12]
Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles: An influential "power player" who becomes an antagonist for Fisk at the "politics and international diplomacy" level[11]
Areboot ofMarvel's Netflix television seriesDaredevil (2015–2018) was reported to be in development withMarvel Studios in March 2022.[31][32] The series was confirmed to be in development forDisney+ in late May, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached ashead writers and executive producers.[33] AtSan Diego Comic-Con that July, the series was announced asDaredevil: Born Again and was revealed to have 18 episodes for its first season.[34] By late September 2023, after six episodes had been filmed,[35][36] Marvel Studios decided to overhaul the series with a new creative direction. Corman and Ord were let go as head writers, as were the series' remaining directors.[35] Marvel planned to retain some elements that had been shot, add newserialized elements, and move closer to the tone of the Netflix series.[35][37] The creative team also decided to connect the new series to the original series more directly than had previously been planned.[38]Dario Scardapane, a writer on Netflix'sDaredevil spin-off seriesThe Punisher (2017–2019), was hired asshowrunner forBorn Again in October 2023.[37] Filmmaking duoJustin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who previously worked on the Marvel Studios seriesMoon Knight (2022) and thesecond season ofLoki (2023), were hired to direct the remaining episodes.[37]
Marvel Studios presidentKevin Feige said in August 2024 that nine episodes had been completed that would make up thefirst season ofBorn Again, and a second season was planned;[39][40] with the creative overhaul, the planned 18-episode season had been split into two, nine-episode seasons.[41][42] In February 2025, Scardapane, Benson, and Moorhead were confirmed to be returning for the second season,[43][42] with Benson and Moorhead directing the first two episodes.[2][5] Scardapane said the second season would just be eight episodes,[4][44] and described its production as a "better-oiled machine".[42] In May, starVincent D'Onofrio revealed that Angela Barnes would direct for the season after doing so for the Marvel Studios seriesIronheart (2025).[45]Solvan Naim andIain B. MacDonald were revealed in July to also be directing.[6] Executive producers included Marvel Studios' Feige,Louis D'Esposito,Brad Winderbaum, andSana Amanat, alongside Scardapane, Benson, and Moorhead.[43] The series is released under Marvel Studios' "Marvel Television" label.[46]
The series' initial take was described as a legalprocedural that was dark, but not as gory as the Netflix series,[35][47] and more episodic than other Marvel Studios series with "self-contained" episodes.[48] D'Onofrio said in March 2023 that they were working on two seasons and there would be "gigantic payoffs" during the second.[49] Following the series' creative overhaul, serialized elements were added,[37] and the cast said the events of the original series would be part of their characters' histories. Some new storylines build on those events, but they did not want to dwell too much on the past or alienate new viewers.[50]
Grainne Godfree,Heather Bellson, and Jesse Wigutow returned as writers from the first season, alongside newcomers Chantelle Wells and Omar Najam.[7][needs update][6] Wigutow said the season had a "singular vision", unlike the first which at times felt "jigsawed together" due to the creative overhaul.[51] Scardapane said the scripts for seven episodes were "locked, loaded, [and] ready to go" ahead of filming. He was still working on theseason finale, as he wanted to incorporate elements discovered during filming similar to traditionalnetwork television series where only a few episodes are written ahead of the one being filmed.[44] The final script was completed by May 2025.[52] StarCharlie Cox applauded the scripts, believing the season had some of the series' best writing and a strongensemble due to it developing characters who Cox felt were "left behind" in the series' initial iteration.[53]
Scardapane described the second season as a "part two", building on what had been done with the first,[42] with visual cues, themes, andEaster eggs from the first season that "pay off monstrously" in the second.[54] He saidWilson Fisk / Kingpin is the "prime villain" of the series, but it also features other antagonists who would be "piling up" as the story continues. These include the serial killerMuse, whose storyline has a "ripple effect" from the first season into the second.[42] At the end of the first season, Fisk has placed New York City undermartial law and locked his political opponents in cages. D'Onofrio said this allows Fisk to commit crimes and get rid of vigilantes, but the character has bigger plans to expand his power and reach beyond New York.[55] Wigutow said the season had "a lot of political intrigue and palace intrigue", and was telling a "big New York City story" about crime and politics that narrows down to "what matters most" in the finale. He said the season was ultimately about Fisk andMatt Murdock / Daredevil both hating and needing each other, and how they work through that.[56][51] Cox said Fisk's New York had become "much more sinister" for those looking to do the right thing and "all bets are off" now that the first-season pact between Murdock and Fisk, to avoid confronting each other, no longer applies.[57]
Because of Fisk's actions, the season's characters are divided into two factions: Murdock's resistance and Fisk's administration. Scardapane called the season a "resistance story" that explores how Murdock, who found a balance with his life as the vigilante Daredevil in the first season, can continue to operate now that being a vigilante is illegal. Murdock's resistance army expands throughout the season.[9] Scardapane said in April 2025 that Murdock's fellowDefenders from the Netflix miniseriesThe Defenders (2017) could join his army, but incorporating them all was "tricky writing-wise" as the writers wanted the story to unfold organically and earn the right to have returning characters.[54] A month later, Defenders memberJessica Jones was announced to be returning as one of Murdock's allies in the season.[20] The creative team were in constant discussions with the filmmakers behindSpider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), which includes characters from the season, to ensure events lined up and "the impacts are felt" between the two. Winderbaum said the tones of each project were different but they still wanted to highlight that they exist in the same world.[11]
Despite being killed in the series' first episode,Franklin "Foggy" Nelson returns for the second season. Amanat said Nelson actorElden Henson andKaren Page actressDeborah Ann Woll would both appear in different ways and said the creative team could not see aDaredevil season without Henson having some involvement.[13] In the first season, the law firmNelson, Murdock & Page has the building number 468, whichGizmodo's James Whitbrook felt was an Easter egg to 2006'sDaredevil vol. 2 #88 (legacy #468). That issue, byEd Brubaker,David Aja, and Frank D'Armata, is called "The Secret Life of Foggy Nelson" and depicts Nelson makings a deal with theFBI to enter theWitness Protection Program after his apparent murder. Whitbrook wondered if Nelson would be revealed to be alive in the second season. He acknowledged that Nelson's death in the first season "leavesvery little room for vagueness", unlike the comic version, but also noted that there is precedence in the Netflix series for characters being resurrected through supernatural means.[58] Reacting to this theory, Moorhead said street-level stories do not usually include supernatural elements and this creates stronger consequences for violence and death: "punches hurt more and blood means more... and dying very often does mean that you're actually dead".[59]
At the end of February 2025,Matthew Lillard joined the cast for the season as Mr. Charles,[43][11] in a recurring role.[23] He called it a "small role right now" and was hopeful the character could return in the future.[62] The next month,Lili Taylor joined in another recurring role as the governor of New York and a political opponent to Fisk.[23][24] Also in March, set photos revealed that Sydney Parra,[28]Annie Parisse,[29] and James Armstrong were part of the cast.[30] In May,Krysten Ritter was announced to be reprising her role as Jessica Jones from Marvel's Netflix series.[19] Ritter said she had known about her return to the role for nearly two years and had struggled to keep that secret due to being "asked about [playing the character again] daily".[63] In July,Royce Johnson was revealed to be reprising his role asBrett Mahoney from Marvel's Netflix series.[27]
Guest stars include Susan Varon, who reprises her role asJosie,[26] and Camila Rodriguez reprising her role asAngela del Toro.[25]
Michael Shaw and Emily Gunshor returned as production designer and costume designer, respectively, from the first season.[6][27] The second season features a black Daredevil suit with a red "double D" chest emblem, similar to the one featured in the "Shadowland" (2010) comic book storyline.[64][60] It is the first time the character has worn a suit with the chest emblem in theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).[65][60] Looking at set photos of the suit, Felipe Rangel ofScreen Rant said there appeared to be bits of red visible under the black. He speculated that Murdock had painted over his red suit from the first season.[65] Cox felt it was "pretty cool" to finally wear a suit with the chest emblem and said he had never asked for it before and had to "earn it". He was happy for the suit to be seen in set photos, rather than the usual secrecy that is taken with a new suit during production, because he was proud to finally have the emblem and wanted to show it off.[66] The suit from the end of the season was Cox's favorite to date, calling it "bad-ass" and noting it had unique elements to it created for the season that had not been seen in the comics previously.[67] Dex's costume features a blue "target" emblem on the forehead, similar to the white one from the comics.[68]
Principal photography began on February 28, 2025,[10][4] with Benson and Moorhead,[4] Naim, MacDonald, and Barnes as directors,[6] under theworking titleOut the Kitchen 2.[5][68] Hillary Fyfe Spera returned as cinematographer from the first season.[5] She is joined byJeffrey Waldron, who worked on episodes 3, 4, 7 and 8.[69][70] Philip Silvera returned from the first season as stunt coordinator and second unit director.[6] In late March, filming occurred inGreenpoint, Brooklyn, at the set forJosie's Bar, with Cox wearing his black Daredevil suit.[26][64] In early April, Bethel filmed scenes inChelsea.[15] Dalton was injured while filming action scenes for the season, requiring him to rest for about two or three weeks.[18] Filming was halfway done by mid-May,[71] andwrapped on July 9.[6]
In May 2025, Cox and Ritter appeared at Disney'supfront presentation where they debuted footage from the season, and Cox confirmed that Daredevil would wear an "iconic" suit featuring the "double D" chest emblem.[19][60] In October, Cox and Ritter appeared together again atNew York Comic Con to present footage from the season.[57]
The second season is set to premiere on March 4, 2026,[3] and will consist of eight episodes.[4] It will be part ofPhase Six of the MCU,[44] and be released under Marvel Studios' "Marvel Television" label.[46]
