Dapodi (earlier:Dapoorie) is a neighbourhood inPimpri Chinchwad in the northwesternPune, India. It is located in the northwest area of the city. Dapodi is situated on the banks ofPavana river andMula River. The neighbourhood of Dapodi compromises of Dapodi gaon, Dapodi bazar, Phugewadi, Kundan Nagar and Ganesh Nagar.

The neighbourhood lies onNational Highway 48 (India). It is served byDapodi railway station which falls onMumbai–Chennai line. The railway station opened in 1858.

TheCollege of Military Engineering, Pune[2] is located here.

Dapodi is surrounded bySangvi andPimple Gurav to the west,Bopkhel,Kalas to the east,Kasarwadi to the north, andBopodi andKhadki to the south. ThePavana River is to the west whereasMula river is to the south.[3]

Etymology

Dapodi was calledDarpapudika (Sanskrit: दर्पपूडिका) during theRashtrakuta rule in the 8th century. An early reference is found in acopperplate inscription dated 758 CE, describing a land gift byRashtrakuta kingKrishna I toPugadibhatta, abrahmin. The inscription mentions the land to be the village ofBopkhelugram (Bopkhel), bordered byDarpapudika (Dapodi) to the west,Bhesuri (Bhosari) to the north, theMuila (Mula) river to the south, andKalas to the east.[4]
