Danylo Pavlovych Skoropadskyi (Ukrainian:Данило Павлович Скоропадський; 13 February 1904 – 23 February 1957) was a Ukrainianpolitician who served as the leader of the Ukrainianmonarchist movement. He had the title ofcrown prince ofUkraine from 1918 to 1919. He was the eldest surviving son ofPavlo Skoropadskyi.

During the existence of theUkrainian State, he studied at the First Gymnasium inKyiv in 1918. In 1919, Skoropadskyi, along with other members of theHouse of Skoropadskyi, was forced to flee fromUkraine due to the collapse of his father's regime immediately prior to theSoviet-Polish War. He subsequently lived and studied inSwitzerland, and then inGermany, where his father had been granted political asylum inMunich. He moved toLondon in 1939.
From 1932, he assisted his father Pavlo Skoropadskyi in leading theHetmanite movement. In 1948, after the death of his father, Skoropadskyi became the leader of theHetmanite movement aspretender to the throne.[citation needed]
Skoropadskyi was engaged on 13 February 1957 to Halyna Melnyk-Kaluzhynska;[1][2] however, he died a week and a half after being poisoned by agents of theKGB in an operation to eliminate Ukrainian independence leaders. He is alleged to have had a childout of wedlock with Olesya Tukhai-Bei, although this has never been proven.
His fiancée Halyna Kaluzhynska was born in Volhynia near Trostianka in 1914. AfterWorld War I, she lived inWarsaw. She later married changed her surname name to Melnyk-Kaluzhynska. AfterWorld War II, Kaluzhynska relocated to theUnited Kingdom along with many otherdisplaced persons. She met Skoropadsky through a mutual friend.
