Dante Ferretti (Italian pronunciation:[ˈdanteferˈretti]; born 26 February 1943) is an Italianproduction designer,art director, andcostume designer.

Biography

Throughout his career, Ferretti has worked with many acclaimed directors, bothAmerican andItalian, includingPier Paolo Pasolini,Elio Petri,Federico Fellini,Liliana Cavani,Terry Gilliam,Franco Zeffirelli,Martin Scorsese,Anthony Minghella, andTim Burton.[citation needed]

He frequently collaborates with his wife, setdecoratorFrancesca Lo Schiavo.[citation needed]

Ferretti was a protégé of Federico Fellini, and worked under him for five films.[1] He also had a five-film collaboration with Pier Paolo Pasolini and later developed a very close professional relationship with Martin Scorsese, designing nine of his last eleven movies.[citation needed]

In 2008, he designed the set forHoward Shore'soperaThe Fly, directed byDavid Cronenberg, at theThéâtre du Châtelet in Paris.[citation needed]

Ferretti has won threeAcademy Awards forBest Art Direction:The Aviator,Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, andHugo. He had seven previous nominations. In addition, he was nominated forBest Costume Design forKundun. He has also won threeBAFTA Awards.[citation needed]

In 2012, he designed the decor forSalumeria Rosi Parmacotto, a restaurant onManhattan'sUpper East Side.[2][3]

For the2015 Expo held inMilan, Italy Ferretti was commissioned to do a series of statues articulating the concept "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".[4]

Ferretti is a member of theItaly-USA Foundation.[citation needed]

As of 2023[update], he is a vice-president on the board of theIschia Global Film & Music Festival, an international film festival held on the Italian island ofIschia.[5]
